Let’s Write a Book! | Part III: Action

Time 4 Sum Aksion

Since we last spoke, I’ve managed to write two chapters of my book, which is nice. I’ve undertaken extensive rewrites to the first chapter and the second one also feels fairly usable.

Even the shortest of short stories needs to be above the paltry 2,000 words which my book currently stands at. Heck, even my biography of Craig David was longer than the story so far.

We have to keep it going. This weekend I have nothing planned, so it will consist of ignoring my spouse and focusing on getting chapters 3 and 4 written in some form.

What I’ve been reading recently

I finished reading J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye – which was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I can’t believe such a boring and poorly written book is so beloved. Holden Caulfield spends the whole book complaining about life, calling people ‘phonies’ and not calling old Jane Gallagher.

I also read Han Kang’s brilliant The Vegetarian, trying to get perspectives of Korean women will be essential to the writing my book. I want to make sure that my female characters feel like real people, and consulting the great modern Korean authors will be essential.

Next on the list Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 (년생 김지영) by Cho Nam-Joo

Here’s part 4
