Grace Carter – Why Her Not Me EP | Video Review

We’re looking at the sophomore EP from Brighton-based singer-songwriter Grace Carter – Why Her Not Me EP. She has paid her dues in the music industry and has supported the likes of Haim, Dua Lipa, Jorja Smith, Mabel, Dermot Kennedy and Rag’n’Bone Man. Grace Carter is making a move into solo stardom and has already been featured on the BBC Sound of 2019 shortlist.

The centrepiece of the project is the emotional ballad “Why Her Not Me”, which deals with a subject close to Carter’s heart. She explained:

“I wrote this song about my father choosing another life over raising me. This video represents the literal and emotional journey I took, only to find out he wanted them and not me. Everyone can relate to the feeling of not being good enough and the frustration that comes with that.”

The track deals with those sickly emotions of heartbreak and rejection, the power of these feelings is striking in Carter’s voice. Growing up without her father’s presence inspires much of Grace Carter’s music.
