Lil Baby & Gunna – Drip Harder | Video Review

Lil Baby and Gunna are one of Atlanta’s most intriguing Trap duos, the two rappers are frequent collaborators and finally released a joint mixtape Drip Harder. The duo are well-known in the Trap scene and this much-anticipated project pairs the up-and-comers with hot producers like Turbo, Tay Keith and Quay Global.

Rolling Stone nicely described the duo’s formula thusly: “We-made-it boasts delivered in the tone of plaintive ballads. They match slippery vocal patterns that keen and decay with instrumentals full of flickering guitars and biting bass.”

Drip Harder is what I’d term “Drip Rap”, and much like Swag Rap this subsection of Trap takes the materialistic bars to ridiculous proportions, interspersed with frequent ‘drip’ chants. There’s no room for emotional ballads like we’ve heard from Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert; Drip Rappers like Gunna and Baby are all about hard emotions and making money.

The chemistry between Gunna and Lil Baby carries this project. Gunna played an important guiding role during Baby’s early career. Gunna told Rolling Stone, “He [Lil Baby] didn’t really care about [rapping] that much. He was being him, just chilling. I was critiquing his music, but also letting him know it sounded good, he should keep going, [offering] words of encouragement.” Lil Baby’s style is also highly influenced by Young Thug.
