Dizzee Rascal - Don't Gas Me | Video Review

This new Dizzee Rascal EP is pretty special, Don’t Gas Me is a triumphant return to form and relevance for the Bow MC. Truth be told, Dizzee Rascal hasn’t been truly relevant since 2009’s Tongue n’ Cheek; longer since he was a big name to hardcore UK Rap connoisseurs.

Last year’s Raskit saw Dizzee return from a short hiatus to make a straight Grime album, while well-received Don’t Gas Me is the project I have been waiting for. Channeling influences from the early Grime days we hear Dizzee spit hot bars over Garage and Jungle inspired production.

The flows are sharp and his energy is high, we haven’t heard Dizzee Rascal this confident and hungry for a considerable period. So far in 2018 we have had some great projects from the UK Rap scene, Novelist received a Mercury Prize nomination for the excellent Novelist Guy, Don’t Gas Me is up there.

Dizzee Rascal has been criticised for not helping bring through emerging UK rappers, Don’t Gas Me’s feature list bucks this with appearances from up-and-comers like C Cane and Afronaut Z. Sandwiched between P Money and Grime legend, Skepta, the latter is featured on “Money Right”. It feels historic, like when Jay-Z and Nas first came together on wax.
